BEGINNER AND FAMILY-FRIENDLY GUIDED SNOWMOBILE TOURS IN COLORADO

Cottonwood Pass (elevation 12,126 feet) is located near the border of Gunnison and Chaffee counties in Colorado; it’s part of the Sawatch Range and is situated right along the Continental Divide. It’s about 50 miles southwest of Denver (80209). The area surrounding the pass is mostly forest, with the San Isabel National Forest to the east and the Gunnison National Forest to the west. Scenic views abound in this area, including incredible vistas of the Collegiate Peaks.
Well known for mountain biking and hiking, and atvs in the summer, this area also sports some of the heaviest snowfall in Colorado during the winter. The mostly dirt road actually began as a foot trail through the mountains for Native Americans, and then grew to a wagon road during the massive silver mining in the area during the 1870s. Once the rush passed, it lay unused until after WWII, when a rise in tourism increased traffic to the area. St. Elmo, a ghost town from the 1890s is nearby, along with several mines and .
Nearby is Lost Lake and Taylor Park Reservoir; the latter offers extensive camping, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and one the most well-known mountain bike trails in Colorado.
