This snowmobile tour lasts 3-5 hours and will take you through the heart of Leadville's Historic Mining District, located in the Colorado Mining Belt. It was the most productive silver mining district in the state. Cumulative production was 240 million troy ounces of silver, 3 million troy ounces of gold, 987 million tonnes of lead, 712 million tonnes of zinc, and 48 million tonnes of copper. You will also make a stop at the ghost town of Oro City in California Gulch - one of the single richest placer gold strikes in Colorado, with estimated production of 120,000 to 150,000 troy ounces of gold. You will also experience breathtaking views of the Sawatch Mountain Range, including the 3 tallest mountains in the Rockies: Mt. Elbert, Mt. Massive, and Mt. Harvard, many mountains over 14,000 feet, and the Collegiate Peaks. There are many opportunities to stop for photos and to take in the rich mining history. This tour departs at 9am and 1pm and books up quickly. No van transportation provided.
